If damp is involved: immediate steps
- Identify and stop any water source affecting the subfloor void before doing any board repair
- Check subfloor airbricks and vents aren't blocked, poor ventilation is a common cause of suspended floor damp
- Don't seal or carpet over boards that are still damp underneath
- Get a moisture reading on the boards themselves before deciding on repair versus replacement
- Address the moisture source first, refixing boards on a floor that's still damp won't stop the squeak returning
