What can be saved and what can't
| Symptom | Likely cause | Typical remedy |
|---|---|---|
| Laminate swollen at joints | Water ingress into MDF/HDF core | Replace affected boards or full area, rarely salvageable |
| LVT lifted at edges after a leak, caught quickly | Adhesive softened by moisture, subfloor still wet | Dry subfloor fully, re-adhere or replace affected planks |
| Carpet soaked with clean water, dried within 24-48 hours | Burst pipe or appliance leak | Replace underlay, carpet may be salvageable if not delaminated |
| Carpet or underlay exposed to grey or black water | Drain backup, external flooding | Full replacement of carpet and underlay for hygiene reasons |
| Persistent smell or staining after drying | Mould growth in underlay or subfloor | Full replacement, do not re-lay over contaminated material |
