Older tiles and floor coverings that need caution
Some older vinyl tiles, sheet flooring and adhesives, particularly in properties dating from before the 1980s, can contain bitumen-based adhesive or, in some cases, asbestos-containing materials. These cannot be identified by eye alone with any certainty.
- Older black bitumen adhesive under tiles is treated with caution rather than assumed safe
- Where there is any doubt about older tiles or backing materials, specialist testing is recommended before uplift
- We do not remove or handle materials confirmed or suspected to contain asbestos ourselves
- A specialist licensed contractor is the appropriate route for any confirmed asbestos-containing material
