Choosing between grinding, shot-blasting and scarifying
These three mechanical methods all remove surface contamination but suit different situations. Grinding is generally used for lighter dust and laitance, shot-blasting for larger areas with heavier residue, and scarifying for aggressive removal of thick coatings or very uneven high spots.
- Grinding: fine finish, lower dust volume, suited to smaller domestic rooms
- Shot-blasting: faster coverage over larger commercial or open-plan areas
- Scarifying: removes thick coatings but leaves a rougher profile needing further prep
