Underfloor heating and laminate gapping
- Laminate rated for underfloor heating usually copes with normal operating temperatures, but rapid temperature swings increase movement
- Programming heating to ramp up and down gradually, rather than switching on and off sharply, reduces stress on joints
- A wider perimeter gap is usually recommended where underfloor heating is fitted, to allow for the extra movement
- Check the manufacturer's maximum surface temperature rating before assuming underfloor heating is compatible with existing laminate
