Herringbone flooring, planned around your room
Herringbone LVT and engineered wood flooring supplied and fitted in Kent. Discuss pattern layout, preparation and finishing. Book a free site survey.
Herringbone flooring brings short pieces together in a repeating angled pattern. We supply and fit herringbone LVT and engineered wood, with the setting out and the base included in the installation discussion. Start with the room you want to change, not just a photograph of a pattern: its shape, entrances and adjoining floors all influence how the finished layout reads.
Our Gillingham showroom is a place to compare finishes before arranging a survey. If you have already purchased flooring, tell us its product name and fitting system when enquiring. We can quote for customer-supplied flooring too, but a product intended for one layout cannot simply be assumed suitable for another. The survey brings the material, pattern and preparation into the same decision.

Choose the material before choosing the layout
Herringbone LVT offers a printed wood appearance in a vinyl covering. Our LVT range includes glue-down and click systems; the actual pattern must follow the selected product's joint design and installation instructions. Engineered herringbone uses a real timber surface over a layered board. Oak herringbone appears in our wood fitting range, alongside other engineered finishes.
The fitting method depends on the product's construction and fixing system, not its colour or pattern. Ask about the complete product, how it attaches and the finish it needs. Herringbone laminate is a separate product choice, not something ordinary straight laminate boards automatically become. Bring the specification if that is what you have in mind; we do not assume every click joint can form a patterned floor.
Set the pattern against the room, not one wall
The centre line matters most where there is a long view through a doorway or into another room. A dry layout helps establish where the pattern starts and how pieces finish at the edges before fitting is committed. Discuss whether the pattern continues between spaces and what happens at thresholds, rather than leaving these decisions until the last cuts.
Chevron flooring is another angled arrangement, not an interchangeable name for herringbone. We fit both LVT formats, but the product and border detail still need agreeing. If you are undecided about the visual effect, the herringbone versus plank LVT guide compares the choices without turning either one into a universal recommendation.
Preparation still decides the finished surface
A pattern does not hide an unsuitable base. Moisture, movement and unevenness need assessing before the visible floor is laid. Concrete may require a smoothing compound; timber may need stabilising and a plywood overlay. The covering and the existing base determine the preparation, rather than a standard treatment applied to every room.
Engineered wood also brings acclimatisation and expansion detailing into the programme. LVT has its own requirements for adhesive or click installation. Our subfloor preparation service explains the booking process, while the detailed guides cover moisture testing and the choice between latex screed and plywood. Necessary preparation is set out in the written quotation.
What changes a herringbone flooring quote?
Compare quotations for the same material and scope. Pattern setting out, perimeter cuts, borders, transitions and the shape of the room affect the fitting work. Uplift, preparation and finishing details can change the total independently of the flooring itself. There is no single herringbone flooring cost that fairly describes all those combinations.
Straight plank is worth considering if you prefer a quieter layout or want fewer patterned edge cuts. Herringbone is a design choice, not a requirement for a well-fitted floor. Ask us to explain both options against your room, with the proposed material named, so you can decide where the pattern earns its place.
Frequently asked questions
- Is herringbone LVT more expensive to fit than straight plank?
- Pattern setting out and additional cuts can add fitting work. The product, room shape, borders and preparation also affect the quote, so compare a like-for-like specification rather than assuming a fixed uplift.
- Can herringbone flooring be laid straight?
- Only if that particular product supports the proposed arrangement. Joint profiles and the supplied pieces determine the permitted layouts. Check the manufacturer's instructions before buying it for a straight run.
- Can any LVT be laid in a herringbone pattern?
- No universal compatibility should be assumed. Choose an LVT product designed for the intended pattern and fitting system, then agree the setting out and edge details before installation.
- Can you quote for herringbone I have already bought?
- Yes, we offer fitting of customer-supplied flooring. Share the product details and room information when booking so the survey can assess the material and preparation together.

Parquet flooring: distinguish wood blocks from a pattern effect
Parquet flooring describes a patterned arrangement of pieces rather than one universal flooring construction. For a fitting enquiry, distinguish real timber from parquet-style LVT and identify the product designed for the layout. Our herringbone fitting covers engineered wood and LVT, with the direction, borders and base discussed together. A patterned vinyl floor gives a wood appearance; it is not a traditional solid wood-block floor.
If you want a parquet flooring quote, send the material specification and pattern with the room information. The price depends on those choices, the setting out, perimeter cuts and preparation. Repairing existing parquet wood blocks is a different brief from laying new herringbone: the old construction, finish and reason for damage need assessment before choosing any treatment. Our hard-floor repair page explains the initial questions.
More questions about your flooring enquiry
- Is LVT parquet flooring the same as parquet wood flooring?
- No. Parquet-style LVT has a decorative vinyl surface; wood parquet uses timber pieces. Identify the material and the product designed for the chosen pattern before comparing fitting quotes.
