Flooring in Medway

Across the Medway towns we are the local option, with the warehouse in Gillingham and fitters who spend most of their week on Medway jobs.

Medway covers a lot of different homes, from riverside flats to long streets of older terraces and big modern estates. Rather than one standard package, every job starts with a free survey so the quote reflects the rooms you actually have: the size, the doorways, the stairs and what is under the current floor.

Flats are a common Medway request. Where a building has rules about sound between floors, it is worth checking your lease before choosing hard flooring, and our acoustic underlay guide explains the options we fit. Houses with pets and children tend to lean towards LVT downstairs and carpet upstairs, and we can quote for the whole property in one visit.

Landlords and letting agents use us between tenancies because a single survey can cover several properties, and supply and fit keeps the job with one team from uplift to the last door bar.

If you are not sure what you want yet, start with the room that matters most. We can price that first, note the product and underlay, and match the same floor in other rooms later so the house stays consistent as your budget allows. That is often easier than trying to decide on every room in a single evening.

Medway: common questions

Do you cover every Medway town?
Yes. Gillingham, Chatham, Rochester, Strood and Rainham are all a short run from the warehouse.
Can you take up and remove my old flooring?
Uplift and disposal of old flooring can be included in the quote. Tell us at the survey so it is priced in rather than added on the day.
Can I see samples without visiting?
The mobile showroom brings samples to your home, which is often easier than choosing colours under shop lighting.

Hard floors for Chatham and Rochester homes

Medway is a terrace-heavy area. In the 2021 Census, 37.7% of homes across the Medway council area were terraced, and around Chatham town centre the figure is closer to two in five, with flats and maisonettes making up a further third. Many of the streets between the High Street and Luton village are Victorian terraces built for dockyard workers. Those houses usually have suspended timber floors downstairs, so before laying LVT or vinyl we check the boards and normally fix a plywood overlay. Laminate flooring in a Chatham or Rochester terrace needs a firm, level base and a good underlay to stop it feeling hollow.

Newer housing, such as the estates on St Mary's Island, often comes with builder-grade floors that owners want to upgrade. The concrete slabs there are generally a better starting point for glue-down LVT, though moisture still needs checking.

Renting is common close to the centre. Around a third of households near Chatham's centre rent privately, so vinyl or LVT that copes with tenancy changes is a practical choice for landlords. Where you live in a flat, check your lease before fitting a hard floor, because many set rules on acoustic underlay. Parts of Chatham and Brompton sit in conservation areas, and Medway Council is the planning authority if a listed building is involved.

For shops and offices around the Brook and the Waterfront, our commercial flooring page covers the brief. Our showroom in Gillingham is a short drive from Chatham if you want to compare samples first.

More questions about your flooring enquiry

What flooring suits a Victorian terrace in Chatham?
LVT, vinyl or laminate all work, but the suspended timber floor usually needs checking and a plywood overlay before LVT or vinyl, so the boards do not show through.
Do I need permission to change flooring in a Medway flat?
Planning permission is not normally needed, but your lease may require acoustic underlay under hard floors. Check it before choosing a product.
Can I see vinyl and laminate samples near Medway?
Yes, our showroom is at Gillingham Business Park, close to Chatham and Rochester.
